Newcomer

Get a permanent resident card

When you are travelling, you need a permanent resident (PR) card to prove you’re a PR when you return to Canada.

Apply for a PR card or travel document, get urgent processing or check the status of your application.

If your PR card expired, you can renew your card. You still have your PR status even if your PR card expired.

Manitoba Start is the first step for all new immigrants to the province.

All newcomers visit Manitoba Start to connect to settlement, orientation, language, and employment services.  Manitoba Start is the leading provider of career development services  to newcomers to the Province, and addresses employers’ hiring needs by connecting employers to highly skilled, job-ready newcomers.

SIN Application

The Social Insurance Number (SIN) is a 9 digit number that you need  to work in Canada or to have access to government programs and benefits.

A SIN is issued to one person only and it cannot legally be used by anyone else. You are responsible for protecting your SIN. Store any document containing your SIN and personal information in a safe place—do not keep your SIN with you.

Your Manitoba Health Card (Registration Certificate)

Manitoba Health, Seniors and Active Living issues a card (or registration certificate) to     all Manitoba residents, which includes a 9-digit lifetime identification     number for each family member.

Public Insurance

Manitoba Public Insurance is a Crown corporation that delivers  insurance, registration and licensing services to Manitoba drivers.  We’re available through claim and service centres in 12 communities  across the province, and services are also available at more than 300  Autopac agents across Manitoba.

An academic credential assessment is used to evaluate a credential  (diploma, degree) earned outside of Canada to determine what it compares  to in Canada.  Individuals educated outside of Canada often have many  questions about their credentials.  For example: “Do I need to get my credentials assessed?”  “Where can I apply to get an assessment?”  “When should I have it done?”  The answers depend on what YOU plan to do in Manitoba.
